HVRHS DUAL ENROLLMENT PROGRAMS
HVRHS offers several paths for students to earn college credit while enrolled in high school. Each year we continue to explore opportunities to expand the course offerings in these programs. A description of each program is listed below. With all programs, parental consent is required on the registration form before students can be enrolled in a program.
UConn Early College Experience (ECE)
UConn's Early College Experience (ECE) is an opportunity for students to take UConn courses while still in high school. Each HVRHS ECE course is equivalent to the same course at the University of Connecticut. Courses are taught on the high school campus by high school instructors who have been certified as adjunct faculty members by the University of Connecticut. UConn ECE students benefit by taking college courses in a familiar setting with an instructor they know. Courses offered through UConn ECE are approximately one-tenth of the cost in comparison to taking the same course on a UConn campus and also save money on the cost of textbooks.
Over 12,500 students and around 1,500 certified instructors in more than 200 high schools take part in this academic opportunity annually. UConn credits are accepted at many colleges and universities across the country and transfer at a 87% success rate.
A $50 per credit course fee is charged by UCONN for this program (with most courses being 3 credits and costing $150). No fees are collected at HVRHS. Fee waivers are available for those students who qualify for Free and Reduced Lunch and have submitted paperwork to the high school.
HVRHS currently has the following course articulations with UCONN:
Registration for this program is a multi-step process that begins in February of the preceding year in which the course(s) will be chosen during HVRHS Course Selection. After courses are set through the high school, students will register for credit online through the ECE process at UConn. It is expected that students enrolling in ECE courses register for credit at UConn. Students registering for 2022-2023 school year will do so in Fall 2022. Students should contact Kirin Terni in the College and Career Center at [email protected] or stop in Room 101 for assistance and questions with the online application process. For more information please visit the UCONN ECE Registration Page for Students and Parents.
